Application History

At 23:38 on December 2, 2010, Blatter was at the Zurich Convention and Exhibition Center. The President of FIFA Blatter opened the white mysterious envelope and announced to the world media that Qatar had won the right to host the 2022 World Cup. The vote was called “the most important decision in sports history” and also ended the most controversial bid for the World Cup in history.

On March 20, 2015, FIFA officially confirmed that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will open in November of that year, and the final will be held on December 18, which also coincides with Qatar National Day. In addition, due to the fierce competition in the mainstream European leagues, FIFA shortened the 2022 World Cup schedule from 32 days to 28 days.

On September 25, 2015, FIFA determined the time for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The competition will be held in winter for the first time, from November 21 to December 18, lasting 28 days.

On July 13, 2018, FIFA President Ivantino said at the FIFA official press conference that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be held in winter from November 21 to December 18.

The emblem of the 22nd FIFA World Cup was officially announced today, which will be an important milestone for FIFA and Qatar, the host country, on the way to the World Cup.

Other major cities in the world are also celebrating this milestone, and the logo will appear on outdoor billboards around the world. Some of the world’s most famous football players and FIFA World Cup legends will also support the event on social media and share the emblem with millions of fans.

The emblem of the Qatar FIFA World Cup in 2022 reflects the vision of connecting the whole world with football, and also highlights the Arab culture of Qatar and the metaphor of the beautiful game of football.

The unveiling ceremony of the official emblem was held at 20:22 local time in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Thousands of spectators will witness that the emblem of the Qatar FIFA World Cup in 2022 will be projected on the most representative buildings in Qatar, including Doha Building, Katara Cultural Village and a series of buildings listed as world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

The curved curve of the emblem of the 2022 Qatar World Cup represents the undulating sand dunes, while the continuous circle not only depicts the number 8, which reminds us of the eight amazing stadiums that will host the games, but also represents the infinite possibility, reflecting the nature of the interconnectedness of the events. In addition to echoing the shape of the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy, the central style of the emblem is also inspired by the traditional wool shawl. In winter, people in Arabia and the Gulf will wear various shawls.

The fine and complex embroidery on the shawl draws inspiration from different cultures in Asia to celebrate the second FIFA World Cup in Asia and the diversity of Qatar’s population. This emblem influenced by Arab culture also indicates the opening date of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, which will be the first FIFA World Cup held in November and December.

The new font designed to match the emblem re conceives the traditional Arabic calligraphy with a new contemporary font, draws inspiration from Arab culture and other Asian cultures, and integrates tradition with modernity.

In the preparatory stage of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, the emblem of this FIFA World Cup will show a bold and modern competition concept. The eye-catching Alshamar Stadium, which is modeled on the traditional single eaved sailboat used in the region, is also the second ready venue. The first competition was held in May this year, which also shows the grand vision of Qatar as the host country to create landmark buildings. The remaining six venues are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020, including the magnificent Russell Stadium, which will hold the opening ceremony on November 21, 2022, and the final on December 18, 2022.
